VW Polo MK4 2005 – 09 Child Safety, Parts & Repair Review

VW Polo

is a breath of fresh air. Its simple, crisp design is modern. While its body may define simplicity, the small details are what make it stand out. The Polo is quiet and comfortable enough to let you survive a long journey, making it reliable.

Its chassis is responsive and feel sophisticated as well. The Polo’s attention to detail makes it one of the best cars of its time. Handling is beautiful, combined with its stability control and spacious feel. Driving the Polo couldn’t be any more fun, safe, sophisticated or enjoyable.

To test its durability, Euro NCAP ran a frontal Offset Crash test on VW Polo (2009) and received a 5-star rating based on its performance and protection in high-speed front and side crash tests.

Watch the Crash test video here.

Child Safety

The Euro NCAP recommends that children less than 3 years of age should be facing the rear. After the age of three years, it is advised that children be forward-facing. This is to avoid the impact on the chest.

POOR WEAK MARGINAL ADEQUATE GOOD

The VW Polo is a somewhat safe vehicle. In a frontal impact crash, the driver receives good protection to the head and lower leg,  while the chest and upper leg are only adequately protected. The passenger, however, receives all around good protection. Despite this, in a side impact crash, the chest receives only adequate protection – worsened if the crash involves a pole. Whiplash protection is marginal, and pedestrian protection is marginal, approaching poor.

SEATBELT REMINDER

Pre-tensioners on the seatbelt automatically tighten the seatbelt to The seatbelt reminder monitors whether there is an occupant in the seat and communicates this information to the seat restraint system in the vehicle. If the seat belt is not buckled, it sends a reminder to remind the occupant to put the seatbelt on.

ANTI-WHIPLASH

In the event of a rear collision, anti-whiplash head restraints in the vehicle cradle the occupants head to minimize any whiplash injury.
